Nancy Wilson, a jazz musician and three-time Grammy Award winner was born in Chillicothe, Ohio 20 February 1937, to Olden Wilson, an ironworker. had worked for a long period as a housekeeper. Nancy was kicked out of Central State University in Ohio after she matriculated for an entire year. In 1956, she made her debut album with Rusty Bryant's Carolyn Club Big Band with which she toured between 1956 between 1956 and 1958. Nancy began recording for Dot Records in 1956, while with the group. Cannonball Adderley urged her to travel into New York in order to advance her career. The city she went to was The Big Town, New York in 1959. Within one month, she got a gig singing in The Blue Morocco Night Club situated on Boston Road in The Bronx where Adderley's agent heard her and signed her. His agent signed her with Capitol in the year 1960. Her debut was that year. Guess Who I Saw Today. Capitol Records released 5 Nancy Wilson albums over a period of two years. In the era of Adderley Wilson's leadership, Wilson started focusing on R&B however she soon switched to torch and jazz. Nancy Wilson's 1962 collaboration in 1962 with Cannonball Adderley propelled her to the top, and in 1963, she had her first hit Tell Me the Truth. Following that year the release, she was getting booked in the New York's Coconut Grove - the top nightclub in America.
