Jeanie Marie Buss is an American businesswoman from the United States. Buss is the sole owner of the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association and currently serves as its president. Buss is a native of California, grew up with an extremely wealthy background. Jerry Buss was her father. Jerry Buss started out as a realty tycoon before becoming the owner of the Lakers. In 1972, her parents separated in divorce and she was left feeling emotionally left out. At 19 years old, she joined the family business as the general manager for the Los Angeles Strings professional tennis team. Then, she established her own Los Angeles Blades pro roller hockey team. She first served as vice-president for the Lakers prior to taking over the presidency of Great Western Forum. Her father died in 2013, and the ownership for the Lakers was transferred to Buss as well as her siblings by a trust of the family which gave each sibling an equal vote.
